Safe From Harm
Written
May 2002
Notes
Sometimes when a relationship comes apart, it can be easy to forget that the other person involved will probably feel bad too, and has probably lost just as much. Safe From Harm follows the course of pain, healing, understanding and empathy that many go through during this time.
It can be easier to assume someone else is not affected like you are, but in reality that may not be the case.
Lyrics
How many symphonies go unfinished? How many reasons come straight from the heart? How many romances manage to finish what they start?
Why must my sunshine glare so brightly? Why must my fortune shift with the seas? Why must my true love keep on walking? Come back, come back, come back to me
Forget how you were the day after How you felt when you woke up alone When safety is far And you're lost in a storm And your sails are torn
Unsure as I stand, as down as I am There's no cause for alarm As used as you've been, as bleak as it seems You will be safe from harm
When you've tried to sleep late at night And keep waking thoughtful and no-one's beside you And you can't quite make out the dream that had held you And you think you don't need to sleep and nothing's wrong But only after dawn
Unsure as I stand, as down as I am There's no cause for alarm As used as you've been, as bleak as it seems You will be safe from harm
If I try to suggest you're untouched That you suffer unconditional love All this punishment is still not enough Throw me out for a fool whose love's never been true If I'm too lost in losing you And you're lost in thinking me thinking you Safe from harm
